I totally agree that exit interviews are a waste of time. If the company wanted to fix the problems, they would have already done so.
I recall once going into an exit interview knowing this, and went through the performance theater of telling them what they wanted to hear. A month later the HR staff member who conducted my exit interview quit too!
My real question is why companies even bother with exit interviews at all? AFAIK it's not a legal requirement, and they never learn anything or take action, so they could just save the time and hassle by not doing them at all.
