I get it. Since you are a freelancer platform, one of the requirements of staff is that they can adapt to different languages, environments and styles for each client. (Probably should have mentioned this in the article, would address some of your critics).
Having been a consultant myself, I can see how the ability to understand a new context as quickly as possible and be productive in a short time span is an advantage. That's probably a competitive advantage that you could leverage.
I've also had the situation where many apparently qualified programmers cannot do the basics. It really makes you wonder what they teach in college and how these people pass!
